In late November, Ocean Choice launched a new product line – Canadian Halibut portions – at 15 Costco Canada stores in Ontario and Quebec.
Our Canadian Halibut portions are a great example of how our offshore fishing operations support our land-based, inshore operations. Harvested by Newfoundlanders and Labradorians working on three of Ocean Choice’s offshore fishing vessels – the Katshesuk II, MV Ocean Breaker and MV Aqviq – the frozen at sea product is processed at our plant in Fortune, where our employees pack the product in new retail packages destined for Costco stores in eastern Canada.
“It is always exciting when the Company expands its product offerings into a new retail partner,” said Chris Curran, Vice President, North American Sales, Ocean Choice. “Today’s customers care more than ever about the food they are eating; and in particular are looking for local Canadian products. Our Canadian Halibut is a high quality, sustainability-sourced and Marine Stewardship Council certified species that is in demand around the world.”
Costco Canada will determine in the New Year if the product will be extended into additional stores and hopefully we will see it in the new Costco in St. John’s in in the company’s home province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
