The Calvert is Ocean Choice’s largest vessel at 74-metres long and 3800 gross tonnes. The Calvert is a modern vessel designed by Skipsteknisk in Norway and built by Tersan in Turkey. The world-class processing facility designed internally and was built and installed by local company, C&W Industrial Fabrication.
Creating 70 new full-time jobs in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Calvert is the first new Canadian ground fish vessel to join the offshore sector since the mid 1980’s. Besides the direct jobs, the Calvert will generate $7 million in annual salaries and over $13 million in economic spin off.
The Calvert features the latest in harvesting and processing technologies that reduce the vessel’s carbon footprint while ensuring the yellowtail flounder, redfish and other groundfish species are sustainably harvested for markets around the world.
Ocean Choice believes in the future, the future of our company, our fishery and our home – Newfoundland and Labrador. It is a future that requires vision, planning and commitment. The Calvert, our new state-of-the art, green class offshore groundfish vessel represents all of this, and will help shape the future for generations to come.
